People Lounge Review

Fortunately, People Lounge’s name isn’t ironic. It really is full of people. Why? Well, there are a few reasons. First is its great location. It's very central within Eixample, the gay area of Barcelona. That’s useful of course if you’re planning on going to any LGBT venue before or after (check out our Barcelona Gay Escape to see where else).

Box one: tick! The venue itself? The owner’s vision became reality in 2005. It is styled on more of an American theatre bar. It’s original and we love it. It has beautiful wood panelling and a generously sized bar which stretches into the middle of the (big) main room. It’s the only bar of its kind in the Barcelona gay community. We should know! We’ve seen 'em all, judged ‘em all and put the best in our Barcelona Gay Escape.

Great location, great place, what else? Unlike most bars, you can request songs. Just make sure it’s 30s - 60s music! The atmosphere here is slightly different to that of most gay bars you can find in the area. It’s still very open and friendly but there’s something different about this place.

It’s called a lounge but that doesn’t mean everyone will be asleep! The atmosphere is less dancy and more drinky, however. It’s a great place to meet people, take friends and have a proper chat! The bar’s clientele are mainly those of a more mature age (35+). Maybe it’s just that our taste refines with age and that’s why People Lounge is one of the best bets in town. Wisdom approved! That’s why they had to be in out Barcelona Gay Escape!

Final Summary

What makes People Lounge different is that it is different. An original theme, modelled on a New York theatre bar. Unapologetically retro music. Great location. If you’re 30+ this should be on your itinerary.
