Park Güell, often referred to as ‘Gaudi Park’, is one of the most popular places to visit in Barcelona. This is no ordinary park, however. People come here for very different reasons as they might with their local park at home. The biggest reason is given away in it’s nickname ‘Gaudi Park’. Antoni Gaudi is one of the most famous architects in the world.
Not interested in buildings? You might be when you see Gaudi's designs. His works are often referred to as ‘architectonic’. That’s not just a cool word! It basically means art meets architecture. Don’t think of Rembrandt or Michelangelo though, think of Picasso and Salvador Dalí. His art is psychedelic but also ground in philosophy, religion and some even believe free-masonry. Gaudi has works all over Barcelona but his greatest collection of works are here in Park Güell.
Gaudi isn’t the only reason to go there, however. As with all art, everyone has their own tastes and if Gaudi feels a bit too ‘out there’ to you, you can still appreciate the space itself. Located on Carmel Hill, Park Güell has a great view of the city and has lots of shops, attractions, things for the kids, guitar and flamenco players and beautiful gardens to relax in. Even though it is hugely popular, the park only allows a limited number of people in at any one time so there are still lots of quiet spaces.

The layout of Park Güell is also very original and while again it may not be to your taste, it will still be an interesting and thought-provoking experience. The truth is though, most people love Gaudi’s design of Park Güell, even if they’re not sold by some of his other designs. You’re very unlikely to regret going and you’re very likely to be happy you did. Art doesn’t please everyone but Park Güell comes pretty close!
Final Summary
Park Güell is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Barcelona. It’s a beautiful and original space. Suitable for everyone!
