Remember the band “Culture Club” from the 80s? If not, you’ve probably heard of their lead singer “Boy George” (a famous gay icon). No? It’s one of three things you can infer from the name of this club. The second comes from the word “culture”. I don’t mean everyone will be reading history and philosophy books when you go inside (well, who knows?).
It’s a very Spanish bar though and it is very welcoming of all nationalities. The barmen are very friendly and open to new faces and different cultures. You’ll feel instantly at home when you walk in here. The regulars are some of the most friendly we’ve met while making our Barcelona Gay Escape.
The final thing you can infer from their name is something which really sets this place apart from the rest. There’s only one word left. You guessed it. Club! How can a bar be a club? Well come here and find out. When you walk in, you might think it’s just a bar but if you go downstairs you’ll find more than just the bathroom. It has a giant dance floor with a bar and regular DJs.
Feeling like a cocktail and a chat? Chill upstairs. Feeling like having a dance to some great music (they have a really varied selection of music but all of it gets you in the mood for a big night out)? Just go downstairs. Not sure where to carry on dancing when the bar closes? No problem. It’s right in the heart of the gay district of Barcelona (Eixample) so there are plenty of great club options nearby which we’ve got deals with in our Barcelona Gay Escape.
What can’t you work out from the name? There’s another big thing this place does and that’s food. Sometimes bar food is just “bar food” but Culture Club makes really delicious food for very reasonable prices. We recommend trying one of their burgers. The best thing though? You don’t have to move when you’ve finished your food. Just sit back (in their terrace), order a beer and enjoy your night. You’ll be happy you got our Barcelona Gay Escape!
Culture Club is open Tuesday & Wednesday 18:00 – 24:00, Thursday 18:00 – 2:30 and Friday & Saturday 18:00 – 3:00. The closest metro stop is Universitat (line 1) but it’s also a short walk from Catalunya, Passeig de Gracia and Urquinaona metros. The metros close between 24:00 and 02:00 (other than Saturday when it’s open all night). There’s also a taxi rank near Culture Club so you won’t have a problem getting home. The metro opens again at 06:00 as a reward for those who have stayed out the whole night!
Final Summary
Culture Club is a relatively new bar which has quickly earned a place in the gay scene of Barcelona. Friendly atmosphere plus a giant dance floor downstairs.
